Stukent CTE | Instructor | Adding Custom Content to a Course

While there are a lot of activities and resources offered in a Stukent CTE course, sometimes it's helpful to add custom content designed specifically for your students. This article will provide instructions on how to add custom content to a course, and include descriptions of what each one is and how it can be used in a course.

 

Section 01

  1. Open the Stukent CTE course.
    • This can be found by clicking on the Classes tab at the top, and then selecting the course tile.
  2. Ensure you are in the Course tab located on the left navigation bar.
  3. Click the Add Content dropdown located in the top right corner above the first topic.
  4. Choose the type of custom content you'd like to add to your course (Material, File, Link, etc.)
  5. Decide where this custom content will need to be put in the side panel that pops out. The activity will move with the computer mouse until you click to place it in the section. (If a mistake with placement is made, there is a back arrow on the assignment that can be clicked to move the activity to the desired location.)
  6. Once decided, you can click on the custom activity from the topic and begin building the it.

 


 

Section 02

The following activities are all activities that can be built manually instead of using an one created by Stukent CTE or copying from a different course:

  • Material
  • File
  • Link
  • External Video
  • Assignment
  • Test/Quiz
  • Poll

Activity Type: Material

This activity allows instructors to build readings specific for their students. This could be a great option if you have activities that need to be adjusted for student differentiation and/or accommodations.

To add Material to your course, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Material activity you just added to the Topic.
  2. Go to the Edit tab on the left side navigation.
  3. Title your activity under the Section Name field.
  4. Go to the Add your material content here section.
  5. Once selected, click the Save Changes button in the top right corner.
  6. From here, instructors can either Close the activity to return to the list of topics or Publish the activity.

 

Activity Type: File

Instructors are able to upload certain files into their course for student use as well. The platform allows the following file types.

*Please note that the files will need to be downloaded by the students in order for them to view it.

  • pdf
  • docx
  • png
  • jpg

To add a file to your course, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the File activity you just added to the Topic.
  2. Go to the Edit tab on the left side navigation.
  3. Title your activity under the Section Name field.
  4. Click the Click here to upload a file... button to select the file you want to add.
  5. Once selected, click the Save Changes button in the top right corner.
  6. From here, instructors can either Close the activity to return to the list of topics or Publish the activity.

 

Activity Type: Links and External Videos

A variety of links can be added to a course for student use. Videos can also be added if using a URL. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on the link or external video activity from the topic you placed it in.
  2. Go to the Edit tab on the left side navigation.
  3. Title your activity under the Section Name field.
  4. Click the Click to add a URL/Video... button to select the file you want to add.
  5. Once selected, click the Save Changes button in the top right corner.
  6. From here, instructors can either Close the activity to return to the list of topics or Publish the activity.

 

Activity Type: Assignments and Test/Quiz

Building an assignment or a test/quiz share very similar steps.

  1. Click on the assignment or test/quiz activity from the topic you placed it in.
  2. Go to the Edit tab on the left side navigation.
  3. Title your activity under the Section Name field.
  4. Choose what kind of questions will be in the assignment or test/quiz. (Checkbox Select, Multiple Choice, Poll, File Upload, Group, Match, Graphic Drag/Drop, Long, Medium, or Short Form Responses, Notes, Discussion or Recording)
  5. If using a Quiz Vault, the questions will be configured in the vault rather than on the assignment.
  6. Determine the Assignment Type (Individual or Group).
  7. Determine the Rubric Type
  8. Click Save Changes.

Remember to enable the assignment when you're ready!

 

Activity Type: Polls

With Polls, it'll show a pop-up window with the poll builder. This is where instructors can build a poll for their class.

  1. Click the Poll option from the Add Content button on the Course Overview page.
  2. Add a Poll name.
  3. Add a question name.
  4. Add options.
  5. Add more poll questions if necessary.
  6. Once finished, select either Create Poll or Create Poll and Push.

 


 

Section 03: Tags and Standards

Most of the custom content activities allow instructors to add tags and standards. The following activities can use them:

  • Material
  • File
  • Link
  • External Video
  • Assignment
  • Test/Quiz

To access Tags and Standards, navigated to the Edit option on the activity you are wanting to add to. It will be located to the far right.

Tags

Tags can be used to categorize which content areas, lesson, topics, or objectives are covered on the assignment.

 

Standards

The Stukent CTE platform offers standards from the following:

  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Kentucky
  • Michigan
  • NBEA
  • National CTE
  • Nevada
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • Texas

After selecting where to pull standards from, instructors can see a set amount of standards. If there's a standard not listed, the search bar can be used to locate the standard they are looking for.
