Stukent CTE | Instructor | Creating and Managing Custom Groups

Stukent CTE allows any assignment to be completed as a group assignment. Groups Presets help the teacher quickly, and repeatedly, assign ideal groupings within those assignments. To access, click on any class, then click Class Settings on the left navigation bar, then click Group Presets. Note, you will want to make sure your students are rostered in the class before setting up presets.

Creating and Assigning Initial Groups

  1. Open the assignment you want to organize a group for.
  2. Click on the Groups tab located to the left.
  3. Confirm making the assignment a group assignment.

From here, there are three options when creating groups: manually create groups, Generate Groups, or Load from Preset. Read below on how to use each option depending on the class setup. (If there is already a group or two created for the assignment, there will be slightly different navigation as shown in the later screenshots below.)

Manually Create Groups

Bypass the automatic group generation options and manually create and assign group members. When this option is chosen, a first group will be created. To create more groups, click the +Add Group button. From here, click and drag student names from the Unassigned Students list (towards the top) into their corresponding groups.

Once groups have been created and assigned, there's the option to make this group arrangement a preset by using the Save as Preset option to the right of the groups.

Towards the top right, there is also the option to adjust how the submissions will be graded:

  • Group (Shared Submissions): one person turns it in and the whole group is graded on that submission
  • Group (Individual Submissions): each group member submits the assignment on their account and is graded as a group
  • Individual: each group member submits the assignments on their account and is graded per student

Generate Groups

Generate groups randomly by selecting the # of groups or # of students per group. From here, there are a few ways to optimize grouping:

  • Group Randomly
  • Maximum Collaboration: This option analyzes all past group assignments in your class, and it prioritizes grouping students together who have worked together the least.
  • Assign leaders randomly
  • Leadership Boost: This option analyzes all past group assignments in your class, and it prioritizes assigning leaders who have led the least number of groups.

Load from Presets

To access a previously-saved group preset, click Load from Preset. See the [Manage Groups Presets] help guide for more information on creating presets.

Students will see their group members and group leader when viewing the assignment on their Stukent CTE account.

Managing Groups After Initial Setup

Once groups have been created and group members assigned, there are various group management tools available to adjust the group assignment settings:

  • Generate Groups: Don’t like the groups that were assigned? Go into the Groups section of the assignment, and click Generate Groups to go through the auto generation options again.
  • Load from Preset: Override the group by loading a preset.
  • Save as Preset: To save a new grouping for future use, click Save as Preset.
  • Shuffle: Quickly shuffle around the group members, group leaders, or both
    • Groups Only
    • Leaders Only
    • Both Groups and Leaders
  • Drag and Drop: To manually move students, click and hold the hamburger (three lines) next to each student. Move and drop them in another group or move them to the top to ungroup them.
  • Add or Delete Groups: Click Add Group if you want to manually add a new group. Click the trash can icon to remove a group completely. If deleted, students will be added to the Ungrouped Students section at the top.
  • Rename Groups: Change the name of each group by clicking each group name box
