If there is a grade sync issue within a course, an instructor will want to reach out to their Stukent Customer Success Manager to troubleshoot why the grade sync issue is occurring and to have those scores resynced once the issue is resolved.
Instructors also have the ability to manually resync all student scores to Canvas, if they choose. This button can be found in the course's Admin Portal > Stukent Scores. Please first be aware of how grade resyncing will affect your students' grades.
How will score resyncing affect the scores in Canvas?
1. The syncing process overwrites Canvas gradebook scores for all completed Stukent assignments.
2. Canvas uses the resync time stamp as the new submission date, rather than using original student submission date.
3. Late Policy Warning: If you have a gradebook late policy, please be aware. If an assignment is due before a resync occurs, Canvas will mark the resynced assignment as 'late' and apply the corresponding late penalty.
- Ex: A student completes the assignment before the due date of October 1st. You resync scores on October 2nd. The assignment submission will be marked late and have any applicable late policies applied.
How do I view the original submission date?
To view the original submission date, you can go to the Stukent Admin Portal > Student Scores > Export Scores. You will be able to download the student scores and original submission dates.
Can I view when an assignment was synced?
Yes! The comments left in Canvas Speedgrader provides a lot of information about a student's scores.
a. Created on..... by Stukent: This comment records the time the score automatically came over when the student submitted the assignment.
b. Score resynced..... by instructor: This comment records the time the score was resynced to Canvas by either the instructor or by Stukent Support.
Why are student scores suddenly showing as 'late' in the Canvas gradebook?
If many student scores suddenly appear as "late," it's likely due to a score resync (either instructor- or Stukent-initiated). Canvas uses the resync time as the submission date, which, if it falls after the assignment's due date, causes the "late" status to be applied.
Is there a way to undo the resync?
There is not a way to undo the sync to Canvas once grades have been synced over.
What do I do about assignments now affected by the late policy?
While Stukent cannot remove the grades already synced to Canvas, here are a few workarounds you might consider within Canvas to remove the late penalty:
a. Manually remove the late penalty for the student. Set the submission from "Late" to "None". This removes the "Late" label on the submission, as well as the late penalty.
b. Remove the Due Date. Removing the due date from the Canvas assignment (this can also be done in the Stukent Content Manager) will remove the "Late" label on the submission and the late penalties will not apply.
c. Remove the Gradebook Late Policy. This is a course-wide setting that will affect every assignment in Canvas. However, disabling this policy is a guaranteed workaround to bulk fix the unintended application of late penalties to resynced assignments.
- To do this, click the cog icon in the top right corner of the Canvas gradebook. You will find Late Policies that you can adjust/remove there.
