Personal Finance Simulation | W-2s

Every 12 weeks in class simulates one year in the real world. This feature allows you to create W-2 forms for students to use when filing taxes

A W-2 form is used when filing taxes. It shows the money students have earned in a year and the money withheld for taxes. Students will use the drop-down menu to select the W-2 form they want to access. Options will not appear until you as an instructor have generated the forms.

To create a W-2 form:

  1. Select Money Management on the left-hand menu
  2. Select Taxes
  3. Here you will select  “Add W-2 Setting”
  4. Add the name of the W-2 period (e.g., Tax Year 1)
  5. Select the date range you want the tax year to cover. Typically, you will want to choose a 12-week period. The system does not force this in the case you want to do the tax exercise more or less frequently. Existing W-2 forms can be edited by clicking the pencil icon or deleted by clicking the “x” icon.

You will want to make sure you have this enabled in your course settings by going to Courses on the left-hand menu and selecting the Pencil icon next to your course's name.

Here you can make sure the W-2 tax forms are checked and you select Update.

For Students to review their W-2s:

  1. They will select Money Management on the left-hand side menu.
  2. Select Employment.
  3. Here they can select the W-2 tab folder.
  4. They will select the time/name of the W-2.
